What is the Netherlands Exchange?
Here are some things that students who have been on the exchange before have said about it:
"It's really good fun."
"I got on really well with my Partner."
"The Netherlands exchange was quality."
"It was so good I wiil remember it for ever."
"It was the best thing I've done at school."
"I still e-mail my partner all the time."
"We're going over to stay with them after we've finished our exams this year."
We are now looking for students to take part in this year's exchange with Anna van Rijn College. Anna van Rijn is in Nieuwegein, which is near Utrecht, in the Netherlands. We have been running this exchange for eight years now and students and families involved have found it a very rewarding and enjoyable experience. Many of our students who have taken part in the past have developed great friendships with their partners and have kept in touch and even organised visits to each other on their own. The Anna van Rijn students who take part in the exchange are all from the top stream in their college and study half their lessons in english. This, and the fact that the Dutch as a whole speak very good english, means that communication is never a problem and our students don't have to learn Dutch although of course many do pick up useful phrases.
The exchange involves the students working together on activities that tie into both the Dutch and UK Curriculum. Work we have done in the past includes Geography investigations into Tourism in Ely, Biology fieldwork at Wicken Fen and Art work at the Cambridge Botanical Gardens. In the Netherlands we have carried out work to link in with the work done in the UK so we have investigated the biology of the polders, the geography of shopping patterns in Utrecht and investigated different art styles including producing our own Van Goghs. Whilst out in the Netherlands we have also cycled through a national park and taken part in an interschool sports tournament. More recently we have investigated the life of Anne Frank including visiting the Museum dedicated to her in Amsterdam
